Uniquely Local: Pittsburgh Movies

Pittsburgh probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think of multi-million dollar movie productions, celebrities, and casting calls. But in the past few years, Pittsburgh has been labeled the “Hollywood of the East” attracting big budget films and well-known stars. I like to think it’s because Pittsburgh is awesome, but it’s most likely due to the Pennsylvania film tax credit and lack of the pestering paparazzi.

Currently filming here is the third and final installment of Christopher Nolan’s epic Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. The movie has attracted tons of media attention and production will continue in the Steel City until the end of August.

Other movies that recently filmed in the ‘Burgh are: Perks of Being a Wallflower starring Emma Watson and Logan Lerman, Steel Town starring Maggie Gylenhaal and Holly Hunter, and the soon-to-be released Taylor Lautner movie, Abduction. Curious to know what other movies are uniquely local? Check out the list below.
