Local Starts with Jersey Shore, PA

Check out the Kickstarter Project for a new quarterly publication  Local: A Quarterly of People and Places (website, blog).  One of the inspirations for BlogLocal is creating away to show off the great places that people live, work and play.  The big cities get lots of attention, but there are lots of great places around this country with amazing stories.  So this project is right up our alley.  We also love that the inaugural issue is about the town of Jersey Shore, PA.

The publication Local is starting with the town of Jersey Shore, PA.  This is one of those small towns you drive past on the highway as you are crossing the state of Pennsylvania – I have probably stopped at the McDonalds there at some point in the past few years.

From the posts on the Local Magazine blog – it seems like there is alot more to the town of Jersey Shore, Pa than just a McDonalds.   While Wikipedia is useful for a quick overview on the history of Jersey Shore – it doesn’t quite capture the stories of this town which still has an operating steel mill.

You can get a sneak peek at some of the illustrations for the first issue at the blog Doodletillomega – Harrisburg, PA illustrator share some of the items he created for the issue here.  We love the series of bicycles Perry created for the article about Jonathan Lauer – we’re eager to read more.

You can help to make their first issue a reality by supporting their Kickstarter project here.  They have put together some interesting thank you gifts for the project.  Want the next issue of Local to profile your town? a $5000 contribution could make that a reality.  There are 18 more days to help Local reach their funding goal.
